The Asian-American male is an interesting species. Some have even dared to say that we all look the same. Say what? Below is your dress code guide to distinguish between the varied types of Asian-American guys. We are only covering the major five types so if you don't see your style of dress then consider yourself unique.

The Casual Guy

This is the most popular choice of dress for Asian-American males because of its simplicity and relaxing qualities. Although the females may think this style is sometimes dull and unimaginative, you can bet your last dollar that nothing beats a pair of jeans and well-worn baseball cap. All Asian-American guys start off their fashion career from this type.

Casual Behaviors
• Fantasy Sport Fanatic
• Prefers fast food to fine dining
• Has more pair of basketball shoes than pairs of underwear
• Owns one suit tops
• Would be incapacitated without his microwave
• Date budget is around $20-$40

Casual
The Classic Guy

This style is usually reserved for the conservative guy who likes to keep it simple yet respectable. Variety for this guy means shopping at J.Crew, Banana Republic or the Gap. Honest and hard working, this guy can be observed working his way up the corporate ladder.

Classic Behaviors
• UC or above college education
• Dines at trendy "Happy Hour" establishments
• Likes to hang out in groups
• Can write the book on "101 occasions to wear Khakis"
• Working a full-time job is his life
• Date budget is around $30-$50

• J. Crew, Banana Republic and the Gap
• Middle Management
• Audi or BMW showrooms
• Professional Organizations
• Dating sites
• At the wedding chapel saying "I Do"

 
Classic
The Dressy Guy

This is the guy who we all call "Mr. Slick" or "Playa." The main point of this guy's life is to play it up and play it up big. There is no mistaking this guy for he will become the center of attention wherever he goes. He believes he is God's gift to women and all other guys who are not in his crew to be jealous punks.

Dressy Behaviors
• Very confident and aggressive
• Drives a Mercedes or Porsche
• Likes to hang out at popular clubs
• Owns more suits than number of days in the week
• Flashes money clip with $100 bills
• Date budget is around $100 and up

Where to find this guy
• Nordstrom's, Barney's or any high-end shops
• Clubs in the VIP booth
• Speeding past you in his Porsche
• Eating out all the time
• Places where women wear tight tops, skirts and high heels
• Salon getting a $50 haircut

 
Dressy
The Trendy Guy

If it's new on the scene then this guy will buy it. The trendy guy must have the latest and greatest material objects out there to impress others and most importantly, himself. Money is usually no object as his parents or credit card will foot the bill.

Trendy Behaviors
• Light blonde streaks in hair
• Shops at boutiques
• Purchase items that most people can't afford and he knows it
• Drives a high-end fixed up car (i.e. Brabus Mercedes)
• Charges everything
• Date budget is around $50 and up

Where to find this guy
• Any outlet store that carries A/X, Versace, Gucci or DKNY
• Raves
• Chinese Cafes
• Hanging out with other Trendy guys
• Clubbing only on "Asian Nights"
• Bookstore reading all the "Fobby" magazines

 
Trendy
The Urban Guy

This guy is not as common as you would think with the popularity of rap and hip hop music but this segment is growing. It takes a special Asian-American guy to pull off a full urban outfit without looking like a complete jackass. The majority of the urban guy's friends are not Asian-American.

Urban Behaviors
• Display signs of "toughness" for street credibility
• Talks with occasional cusswords
• Never hangs out alone
• On the cellphone 24-7
• Does not believe he is Asian
• Date budget is around $40-$60

Where to find this guy
• Clubs featuring "Hip Hop" nights
• Sean John section of Macy's
• Cruising the streets in his SUV
• Basketball Courts
• At home watching MTV Cribs or BET
• Local record stores
